Start by distinguishing sail from power
A sailing catamaran introduces sails, rigging and a programme affected by wind as well as the chosen destination. A power catamaran uses its engines for the journey and can offer a different relationship between indoor space, decks and running time. They should not be treated as interchangeable simply because both have two hulls.
Tell the planner whether you want time under sail or mainly the broad social layout. If sailing matters, ask how it can fit the intended hours and route without promising conditions. If a calm meal is central, compare the table, shade and crew service first, rather than selecting from a sailboat image that may not match the offered vessel.
Read the layout through your own group
The beam can create generous communal areas, but movement between them still involves steps, thresholds and working spaces. Request photographs of the boarding arrangement, cockpit, saloon and route to the toilets. Guests with limited mobility need an assessment of those details rather than a general assurance that a catamaran is stable.
Some groups value everyone sitting together; others want separate quiet corners. Ask how many people the main table seats and which areas are covered at the intended time of day. Forward trampolines or lounging spaces are not substitutes for approved seats while underway, and the operator must explain their appropriate use.
Link the yacht to a workable Antibes berth
A catamaran’s width affects berth choice and boarding arrangements. Do not assume that an available monohull departure can be copied to a different vessel. Give your hotel area and request the exact meeting place once the yacht is identified, including any transfer implications if it departs from a nearby harbour.
For a short charter, balance the journey with time to enjoy the space. A stop around the cap and a programme towards the Lérins Islands involve different timing decisions. Discuss what the group wants to do while stopped and let the skipper propose a course suited to the conditions and the particular yacht.
Compare a catamaran proposal on equal terms
Ask whether the quote includes skipper, additional service crew, fuel and the intended meal. For an overnight request, review cabin privacy, bathrooms and crew accommodation separately from daytime capacity. A published manufacturer's berth count is not a confirmed charter guest allowance or proof that every cabin is available to your party.
Provide the date, adults and children, desired hours and whether sail or power is preferred. A model such as the Prestige M48 can help explain a power-catamaran layout, but our model guides are sourcing references. The actual yacht, permitted use, departure and operating terms must be established in an individual proposal.
Checks for the course you have chosen
Will a catamaran eliminate seasickness?
No hull type guarantees comfort in all conditions. Explain any concerns and ask the skipper about a suitable route and timing for the actual day.
Can we request a power catamaran?
Yes. State that preference explicitly so the shortlist does not substitute a sailing catamaran whose rig, layout and operating programme differ.
